What is ketamine therapy?

Ketamine therapy uses carefully controlled doses of ketamine to help treat certain mental health conditions and chronic pain. When delivered in a medical setting with appropriate screening and monitoring, ketamine can offer a meaningful option for patients who have not found relief with traditional treatments.

What is the difference between Spravato® and IV ketamine therapy?

Spravato® is an FDA-approved nasal spray form of esketamine, typically covered by insurance for eligible patients. IV ketamine is administered through an intravenous infusion and is used off label. The two treatments differ in dosing, delivery, insurance coverage, and clinical considerations. We plan to help determine which option may be most appropriate during the intake process.

Is ketamine therapy safe?

When delivered in a medical setting with appropriate screening and monitoring, ketamine therapy has a well-established safety profile. At Ketamend Wellness, safety is intended to be built into every step of care, from careful evaluation and dosing to attentive clinical oversight throughout each treatment.

Am I a candidate for ketamine therapy?

Ketamine therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Eligibility is determined through a thorough medical and psychiatric evaluation that considers your history, current conditions, medications, and treatment goals.

What conditions do you treat?

We plan to treat adults with certain mental health conditions, including depression (including treatment-resistant depression), anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. IV ketamine therapy may also be used for select chronic pain conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), neuropathic pain syndromes, and fibromyalgia.

What does a treatment session feel like?

Experiences vary, but many patients describe a sense of altered perception or deep inward focus during treatment. Sessions are planned to take place in a calm, private environment designed to support comfort and reflection, with clinical staff available for oversight and support.

How long does a session last?

Session length depends on the type of treatment. Most sessions are expected to last about an hour, followed by a recovery period. You should plan to be at the clinic for at least two hours.

Will I be monitored during treatment?

Yes. Patients will be monitored before, during, and after treatment according to established safety protocols. Discharge occurs only when it is clinically appropriate.

Can I drive myself home after treatment?

No. Because ketamine can affect alertness and coordination, transportation home will be required after every treatment session.

How many treatments will I need?

Treatment plans are individualized. Some patients begin with a structured series of sessions, followed by maintenance treatments based on response and clinical judgment. This is planned to be discussed during intake and adjusted over time.

Is ketamine therapy covered by insurance?

Spravato® is often covered by insurance for eligible patients. IV ketamine therapy is self-pay. Coverage and costs will be reviewed prior to starting treatment.

Will ketamine interfere with my current medications or therapy?

Ketamine therapy is often used alongside ongoing psychiatric care and medications. Coordination with your existing clinician will be encouraged when appropriate to ensure safe and consistent care.

Do you replace my psychiatrist or therapist?

No. Ketamend Wellness is intended to function as a focused treatment provider. We value collaboration and continuity and encourage patients to remain engaged with their existing mental health clinicians. For patients without an established psychiatrist or therapist, we help facilitate timely connection with appropriate mental health providers to support ongoing care.

What are the possible side effects?

Side effects vary by treatment and patient, but may include temporary changes in perception, nausea, dizziness, or fatigue. These effects are typically short-lived and will be monitored closely during treatment.

What is the first step if I’m interested?

The first step will be completing an intake form. From there, we plan to review your information and schedule an evaluation to determine whether ketamine therapy may be appropriate for you.
